Information Technology Salary & Jobs Report 2018

WinterWyman Search’s Information Technology practice has filled over 300 jobs in the network, DevOps, business systems, database engineering and IT management fields over the past several years. The information presented below draws on this wealth of data. In addition to the most recent year’s data, information from 2016 and 2017 are provided for historical context. 1. Salary Data

Salary by Technology

While IT professionals of all backgrounds are in high demand, business analysts and management continue to command particularly high salaries. Figure 1 shows the average salary for WinterWyman Search’s Information Technology practice’s six primary areas of focus for the past 12 months.

 Each technology bucket WinterWyman Search’s Information Technology practice serves also has a unique salary range (see Figure 2). 

 

Figure 3 highlights salary changes from 2016 to 2017 for each of the core areas we serve, with projections for 2018 based on our data from the first half of this year. 

2. Job Demand

Figure 4 shows which IT jobs we’ve seen the highest demand for in the Greater Boston region.

 The area chart below (figure 5) highlights how the composition of demand for jobs in these core buckets has changed over time.

Most of WinterWyman Search’s Information Technology practice’s work takes place in downtown Boston, where much of the region's business activity is located. That said, suburbs that have large numbers of established businesses also produce much of the practice’s demand. 

3. Looking Ahead

WinterWyman Search’s Information Technology practice has found that the supply of top-tier candidates is particularly constrained, thereby pressuring companies across Greater Boston to increase offers to candidates. In particular, windows system administrators, business intelligence developers and analysts, and anyone working in DevOps will be happy to know that the market for their services is especially strong.
